You +2 Event
September 10, 2010
The ‘Kidney March’ will be the first in Canada. September 10-12th, we will be marching 100K to raise awareness of this very important cause. The Kidney March will be host to over 600 participants, some those marching will even be on dialysis. People will unite to create awareness of the over two million people in Canada that don’t know they have kidney disease. This is the birth of a movement. This will be an event that will change the face of kidney disease in our community. We hope that you will all consider joining us either as a marcher or a crew.

It's pretty simple, as far as "challenges" go. We want all our marchers to bring 2 people that may be interested in being part of our community and learning more about the disease and the Kidney March. Everyone is invited! We all have at least 2 close family members or friends that would love to be a part of our movement. YOU can help grow our ranks. YOU can do this. YOU have the power to transform the face of kidney disease and organ donation right here in our community. The Kidney March is rapidly approaching and there are still people who haven’t heard about it. We want you to challenge THEM!

Quick facts:

• More than 4,200 people are on the waiting list for a new organ
• Over 70% of those on the list are waiting for a kidney
• There are over 2 million people at risk or have kidney disease but don’t even know
• There is no cure, only treatments (dialysis & transplant)
• Kidney transplants remain the best option for treatment if your kidneys fail
• Canada has one of the lowest organ donation rates
• Ultimately it is up to your family to make the final decision about organ donation
• You can show your consent by signing you’re the back of your Alberta Health Card, but ultimately it is up to one’s family
• Please discuss your wishes with your family
