In today’s office enviroment, it is common for your co-workers to range from Baby Boomers to Millennials. While communication styles and expecations may differ among generations, each add unique strengths to our culture and we can always learn from each other. Mark Swartz has written a great article entitled Advice to Gen Y Grads From a Gen X Career Specialist which helps to remind us of this.
This weekend our Director of First Impressions, Cynthia Mansfield will be participating in her 11th MS 10k Walk. Cynthia was diagnosed with MS in 1998 and participated in her first walk the following year. She does an amazing job raising funds each year and has raised over $4,700 for this year’s walk. We are in awe of Cynthia’s effort and enthusiasm for this cause but we are not surprised as she brings this same effort and enthusiasm to our team. Good luck Cynthia – we wish you a sunny day and a great walk!
We have fun – it is part of our Mission Statement. So, how do we make tax season fun? First, we recognize that we are all facing an increased workload and we approach it with a positive attitude. We throw in stress relievers such as massages, ping pong, buzzword bingo, snacks and a Mexican Fiesta night hosted by our Partners. Our team members support one another by sharing the load and recognizing each another for the great work they are doing. We top it off with an “April 30th Celebration” and a day off. We appreciate that even though we are going to be busy, it is a great opportunity to provide training, hone our coaching and mentoring skills and continue learning.
We did it again! Congratulations to the five YPM teams that participated in the 2010 Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake. Our team member James Nakashima was the individual with the highest donations and his bowling team was awarded highest team donations. The teams would like to pass on their thanks to everyone that donated.
We are very excited to welcome our new Co-op students Lindsay Ostrom & Kim Ivan and our new CA student Sarah Marshall to the YPM team. We are also very happy to have Chandra Storvold, CA, and CA students Nick Rosendal and Heather Regitnig returning to the team as well. Our team keeps growing!

It seems most of us are using Facebook and other social media sites as our main source of communication. Doug White from Robert Half International writes “As more people embrace Facebook and other social media websites for business purposes, the already fine line between what’s professional and what’s personal continues to blur. It can be difficult to determine which work-related contacts to connect with and what content to share.” His article on Yahoo Hotjobs entitled Facebook Tips for Working Professionals offers some great advice on this popular topic.
